Eaglewings Industrial Building I-1
General Description

Building I-1 can be used as either a trackside or roadside industrial building.

It comes powder coated in a dark gray color, which provides excellent protection for outdoor use.

Our building has been detailed to represent a trackside combination of an office and shipping facility. It is painted in traditional Santa Fe RR colors of the early 1900s and will have signs depicting Santa Fe RR installed when final details are finished.

Detailing Process
  1. Mask off, from the inside, all window and door openings. This prevents the spray from the prime and finish paints from coloring the interior of the building.

  2. Spray the outside with a good quality primer. This will assist a better adherence of the final coat of paint to the slick powder coat finish. Krylon Interior-Exterior gray spray primer or Rust-Oleum gray metal primer. Let dry per manufacturer's recommendations.

  3. Select and apply finish color such as Krylon Metallic enamel paint or Krylon Interior-Exterior paint. Apply two coats, letting dry between coats per manufacturer's recommendations. We chose to have our building have a stucco look by using a good exterior house enamel with Homax Tread Tex Anti-skid paint adhesive added to the paint.

  4. Select a trim color, using quality exterior enamel, and apply with a small brush. In the example shown, just the top of the windows, doors, and the freight dock were painted with the trim color. For an added affect, the green paint was added across the lower left front and upper roof trim.

  5. The roof was finished to look like an asphalt roof. To accomplish this, apply a heavy coat of flat black exterior acrylic house paint to the primed roof area. While paint is still fresh, apply a thick covering of pre-washed, dry sand over the fresh paint, making sure the sand is firmly pressed into the wet paint. Let dry 24 hours. To remove excess sand, simply tip building and let excess sand fall off. [Recommended: pre-washed, clean play yard sand available at The Home Depot stores.]

  6. The loading dock platform can be enhanced by applying wood strips or as done in this example, a precision board product from Rainbow Ridge (www.rainbowridgekits.com).

  7. Cut and install clear acrylic sheeting to cover the windows from the inside and affix to the building using a clear silicone adhesive.

  8. Install lights such as those found at Radio Shack and rated to match your source voltage. We use 14.4 volt screw base bulbs and fixtures on a 12 vDC souce.
